Jumpstart analysed official data from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Department of State, and the pattern that emerges is a filter that tightened around <em>permanent<\/em> residence while leaving temporary categories for documented talent largely open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Talent and specialty visas stayed open<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><strong>O-1<\/strong> \u2014 for people with extraordinary recognition in their field: <strong>93.1% approved<\/strong> in 2025, across more than 34,000 petitions adjudicated by USCIS.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>H-1B<\/strong> \u2014 for specialty occupations: <strong>97.8% approved<\/strong> in the first half of the year.<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Permanent residence narrowed sharply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interest in employment-based green cards stayed high through the year, but approval rates fell quarter over quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><strong>EB-1A<\/strong> \u2014 extraordinary ability: from <strong>31.4%<\/strong> in the first quarter to <strong>17.6%<\/strong> in the last quarter of 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>EB-2 NIW<\/strong> \u2014 national interest waiver: from <strong>14.7%<\/strong> to <strong>4.9%<\/strong> over the same period.<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students absorbed the sharpest shock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In May 2025 the United States temporarily suspended new appointments for academic and exchange visas \u2014 timing that caught Brazilians close to the start of the university calendar. In June, F-1 issuances to Brazilians fell <strong>52% year over year<\/strong>, recovering the following month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tourism moved less.
